The introductory solo canoe course is for those who want to master the river in a solo craft to develop their independence. If you think solo and tandem canoeing are similar, think again! Despite the fact that some paddle strokes are similar, a solo canoe is a craft you need to learn to master. We will first spend time in calm water understanding the effect of our paddle on the boat. We will then apply our maneuvers in class 1 rapids. This course is designed to develop river independence, understanding of the craft, and ease in solo canoe maneuvers. We suggest prior experience in a tandem canoe, but you can still attend this course without experience.
